How we collaborate

Collaboration within Europengineers is built on trust, openness and professional reciprocity. The network connects independent engineering and consulting companies across Europe and creates space for cooperation at different levels: between companies, between colleagues and between specialists who want to exchange knowledge and develop expertise together.

Between companies

Collaboration starts with relationships between member companies. CEOs and senior leaders meet regularly to discuss market developments, business challenges and future opportunities. These conversations help members understand what is happening across the industry, share local knowledge and identify where bilateral or wider cooperation makes sense. In practice, this can lead to collaboration on projects, tenders, bilateral bids and learning programmes, while also giving members access to each other’s networks, experience and specialist insight.  This cooperation is not theoretical. Recent examples show how the network works in practice: during the 2025 General Assembly in Florence, Europengineers highlighted ongoing collaboration between HYDEA and SALFO in Saudi Arabia, as well as a partnership between Setec and Schüßler-Plan on major rail infrastructure in Germany. These kinds of partnerships demonstrate how the network helps companies combine strengths across borders when a project calls for complementary expertise.

Exchange programs for employees

Europengineers also creates opportunities for employees to gain international experience through structured exchange programmes. The aim is simple: to help professionals grow by working with colleagues in another country, in another office and often in another engineering culture. These exchanges allow employees to broaden their horizons, strengthen their professional skills and build relationships across the network.  The exchange programme currently offers three routes. The Trainee Program is designed for university graduates at the start of their careers and includes project work at a partner company for up to six months, while maintaining employment with the home company. The Talent Program is intended for young professionals with two to three years of experience who want to be fully integrated into project work abroad for a longer period of up to two years. The Expert Program is aimed at experienced specialists who continue working on their own projects while contributing their expertise to a partner company for up to six months. Depending on the programme, support may include language courses, accommodation support and practical help with local mobility.  Beyond the formal programmes, the wider network also supports staff opportunities through meetings, trainings, internships and secondments with other member firms. These initiatives are mutually beneficial: they help employees expand their skills and international perspective, while giving member companies fresh insight into other ways of working.

Training and expertise

A strong part of Europengineers collaboration lies in continuous learning. Throughout the year, the network organises technical workshops, site visits, theme meetings, panels and other activities that allow professionals from junior to senior level to exchange knowledge and best practice. Working groups give specialists the chance to explore specific technical topics together, while theme meetings focus on the effectiveness of organisational processes and systems at management level.  For younger professionals, project visits and forums provide a practical setting in which to learn from real projects and build relationships across Europe. For the wider network, regular technical exchange remains an important part of the culture. Recent examples include monthly online technical lunch lectures, such as Basler & Hofmann’s session on ecological optimisation of structures and ROD’s seminar on artificial intelligence in the road sector and embodied carbon in retaining wall systems. In 2025, Bureau Greisch also hosted the Europengineers Design Sprint in Liège, focused on parametric design applied to buildings. Together, these activities help members share expertise in a concrete, applied and forward-looking way.  Europengineers collaborates by combining strategic dialogue, practical exchange and technical depth. That is what allows the network to create value not only for its member companies, but also for their employees, their clients and the wider engineering sector.
